Should This Milk Be Refrigerated?

So here in Lebanon, milk comes in a box and it sits on the shelf until you are ready to drink it. These boxes of milk can sit on the shelf for months before going bad. I currently have a box in the cabinet that expires in January. When you are ready to drink it, it goes in the refrigerator, gets cold and tastes very similar to milk in the US. Maybe a little different but not much.
I have to say I was very skeptical of milk in a box at first but decided I would give it a try. I actually really like it. It's also really a great idea. The boxes of milk usually come in packages of six or more so when you finish one you have more waiting in the cabinet. Now when I pour a bowl a cereal, open up the refrigerator and see that there's no milk, I can smile because I know I have another box in the cabinet. Yay Lebanon and your boxed milk!
I did some research on the milk and found out it doesn't need to be refrigerated because it is heated to a temperature that kills virtually all of the bacteria and other microorganisms (bacteria, after all, are what cause milk to spoil).  The milk also has special packaging so that it can’t be contaminated after the fact.

Eggs are also not refrigerated at the store, but they do go in the refrigerator when you get home.
